Physician Burdens

This opportunity for engagement is now closed.

Through three phases of member engagement conducted between May 2019 and December 2021, Doctors of BC sought physicians’ input to inform policy development regarding the increasing demands on physicians (e.g, mounting paperwork, unnecessary tasks, and work that does not directly relate to patient care) and the impact of these on physicians and their practices.

  • Phase 1 (in May 2019) helped us understand how these increasing demands were impacting you, your practice and, in many cases, your health and well-being.
  • Phase 2 (in November 2019) sought your feedback on proposed policy commitments and recommendations to stakeholders that your prior input had helped to inform. These were eventually reflected in our policy statement outlining core principles on addressing physician burdens.
  • Phase 3 (in December 2021) again sought your input on the impact of mounting burdensome demands on you and your practice. Disruptions and changes in the health care system caused by COVID-19 required us to reassess our understanding of your priority concerns. Your feedback helped inform if and where adjustments to our policy and advocacy on your behalf were needed.

The input physicians shared through this iterative engagement process supported our progress to publication of Doctors of BC's policy paper: Creating Space for Doctors to Be Doctors: A Cumulative Impact Lens on Physician Demands. The policy principles it outlines provide the foundation of our ongoing advocacy for solutions that reflect your experience and meet your needs.
