Gender Equity in BC Medicine

This opportunity for engagement is now closed. Thank you to all who participated. See the Engagement Process & Outcomes panel on this page for details.

See here for information on Phase 2 of member engagement to inform policy development on this issue.

In June 2021, Doctors of BC’s Council on Health Economics and Policy (CHEP), a Standing Committee of the Board of Directors, was in the early stages of research and consideration of the issue of gender equity in medicine.

With the goal of developing policy on this issue, CHEP sought physician input via a survey and comment board on identified focus areas for policy consideration:

  • Mentorship and leadership for female physicians
  • Addressing the impact of gender-based bias at all career stages
  • Supporting improved work-life integration
  • Ensuring consideration of the impacts of intersectionality
  • Increased research and improved data collection on gender-based income gaps
  • Ensuring new payment models don't contribute to income gaps

Member feedback helped guide the next steps in policy development on this issue.
