Supporting an effective Representative Assembly

One of the focus areas in the Governance Committee's 2026-2027 work plan is a continued review of the Representative Assembly's (RA) current functioning and a future visioning exercise for the RA. As part of that work, the Governance Committee is exploring how the RA's composition can best support its primary role as an advisory body to the Board of Directors.

This includes considering the option of including the physician chair and co-chair positions of Doctors of BC statutory committees, the Joint Collaborative Committees, the Council on Health Economics and Policy, and Council on Health Promotion as either voting or non-voting RA members. Including committee physician leaders may have the potential to:

  • Allow the RA to hear directly from those with informed perspectives on the work happening within the mandate of these committees.
  • Enhance the RA's awareness of the depth and breadth of physician-led work underway across the Doctors of BC ecosystem.
  • Enable better-informed RA discussions and proposed actions and outcomes.
