HPOA

You have told us there are aspects of the HPOA that you like, while others raise significant concerns.

You support some aims of the legislation, including efforts to:

• Address discrimination and improve Indigenous cultural safety in the health care system
• Increase efficiency for smaller professional Colleges

You have concerns, including:

• A lack of meaningful consultation on development and implementation
• Lack of procedural fairness (including removal of appeal rights)
• Automatic publication of even the most minor remedial actions
• Board composition and appointment 
• The potential to shift doctors into a more defensive (and expensive) mode of practice
• The volume and complexity of the 600+ sections of the legislation 
• Erosion of trust and psychological safety of health care providers, ultimately making BC a less attractive place to work
