1. In anticipation of the HPOA coming into effect, you indicated support for some aims of the legislation, including efforts to:
- Address discrimination and improve Indigenous cultural safety in the health care system
- Increase efficiency for smaller professional Colleges
And you identified your significant concerns, including:
- A lack of meaningful consultation on development and implementation
- Lack of procedural fairness (including removal of appeal rights)
- Automatic publication of even the most minor remedial actions
- Board composition and appointment
- The potential to shift doctors into a more defensive (and expensive) mode of practice
- The volume and complexity of the 600+ sections of the legislation
- Erosion of trust and psychological safety of health care providers, ultimately making BC a less attractive place to work
