Section 1: Specified Health Professionals

If passed and brought into force, the regulations will restrict employers from requiring employees to provide sick notes from physicians, nurse practitioners and registered nurses for short-term absences.

4.

Should the restriction also apply to sick notes from other health care professionals?

Section 2: Scope of the Restriction

There are various approaches across Canada to determining the threshold for a “short-term” absence. Help determine what approach BC should take.

Section 3: Health of Another Specified Person

The Employment Standards Act provides an employee with up to five days of unpaid leave per year to meet responsibilities related to the care or health of a child or immediate family member (e.g., spouse, parents/guardian, sibling, grandparent).

9.

Should the sick note restriction be limited to when an employee is absent for reasons relating to their own health?

10.

Should employers also be restricted from requiring a sick note when an employee is absent due to the health or injury of a person in their care?
